How to Create an Invoice Without GST: Guide for Unregistered Businesses in India
Learn how to create professional invoices without GST registration in India. Bill of supply format, exemption rules, and when GST registration is required.
Can You Create Invoices Without GST?
Yes. If your annual turnover is below ₹20 lakhs (₹10 lakhs for special category states), GST registration is not mandatory. You can issue a "Bill of Supply" instead of a tax invoice.
Bill of Supply vs Tax Invoice
A Bill of Supply looks like a regular invoice but does NOT include tax amounts (no CGST, SGST, or IGST). It must include: your name and address, invoice number, date, description of goods/services, and total value.
When GST Registration Becomes Mandatory
- Annual turnover exceeds ₹20 lakhs
- You sell goods/services inter-state (across state borders)
- You sell through e-commerce platforms
- You're required to collect TCS/TDS
